LETU's New 'Future of East Texas' Grant to Make College More Affordable for Local Students

[ARCHIVED NEWS RELEASE]

02-04-2014

每日大赛官网 will make living on campus more affordable for local students by offering a new "Future of East Texas Grant." Residential students may qualify for up to $4,500 more per year in tuition assistance. Grants are renewable for four years, totaling $18,000.
First-time college students enrolling for Fall 2014 whose home address falls in any zip code starting with 756, along with zip codes of 75701 - 75709, 75762, 75771 and 75791 may qualify for the grants. These zip codes include Longview, Tyler, Kilgore, Hallsville, Whitehouse, Lindale and other local cities.
This new Future of East Texas Grant is designed for students who plan to seek degrees offered in LETU's School of Aeronautical Science, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business or School of Education. Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 and continue to live on campus. Those who move off campus or change majors to schools not listed will forfeit the grant.
The scholarship applies to every residence hall on campus. LETU doesn't currently have variable housing rates, so the grant is worth the same amount regardless of housing facility selection.
"LETU believes the future of East Texas is in the dreams of our children," said LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford. "A residential college experience offers unique preparation for a future life of professional skill and Christ-like character. This grant, in addition to our existing scholarship program, brings a quality LETU education within reach for many of our neighbors."
Qualified students will be notified of eligibility for the Future of East Texas Grant. Students are expected to write a brief essay on "How my dreams will make the future of East Texas brighter." A limited number of grants are available. For more information about the grant, go to www.letu.edu/easttxgrant.
To apply for one of the grants, students can go online to www.letu.edu/apply to fill out an application for admission, or they can call the Admissions Office at (903) 233-4300 for more information.
"One of the best Christian universities in the nation is right here, in their backyard," said Terry Dale Cruse, vice president of Enrollment Services. "We want to give local students the opportunity to have a residential campus experience close to home. LeTourneau enrolls students from all 50 states and more than 30 nations. We want more East Texas students to experience the quality education that draws students from thousands of miles around the globe."
The University awarded more than $550,000 to students from the impacted zip codes during the 2013-2014 academic year. Scholarship amounts ranged from $3,000 to full-tuition, with an average exceeding $12,000 per student. The Future of East Texas Grant will increase the lower end of awards to $7,500 per year and maintains full-tuition scholarships for qualified students.
"Most local students are surprised to learn how generous LeTourneau is with scholarships," Cruse said. "This new grant is a way we can further demonstrate our commitment to those students." Cruse added.
