LETU to Host Theology Week Feb. 24-28

每日大赛官网 will host invited speakers and panel discussions during its annual "Theology Week" Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 24-26, and Friday, Feb. 28. Chapel services will be held in the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave., in Longview. Theology Week is sponsored by the LETU Department of Theology. The events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Ben Witherington - 10:50 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24
Monday's keynote speaker will be Dr. Ben Witherington, the Amos professor of New Testament for doctoral studies at Asbury Theological Seminary, who has written over 40 books.
Witherington will speak during chapel at 10:50 a.m. in the Belcher Center, and again during a seminar at 1 p.m. in the Little Theatre on the third floor of the Memorial Student Center. Witherington is also on the doctoral faculty at St. Andrews University in Scotland. His books include "The Jesus Quest" and "The Paul Quest." Christianity Today selected both books as top biblical studies works. Witherington has been on the History Channel, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, The Discovery Channel, A&E and the PAX Network. He has taught at Ashland Theological Seminary, Vanderbilt University, Duke Divinity School and Gordon-Conwell.

"Theology and the Arts" Panel Discussion - 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Belcher Center. Participants include LETU faculty including theology professor Dr. Luke Tallon, English professor Dr. Jim Watson, and worship arts music instructor Ben Shepherd.

Dr. Ben Blackwell - 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26
Wednesday's event will feature Dr. Ben Blackwell, the interim chair for the department of theology at Huston Baptist University, speaking in chapel at 10:50 a.m. in the Belcher Center. He will also speak during a seminar at 1 p.m. in the Little Theatre in the Memorial Student Center.
Blackwell's primary teaching areas are the New Testament and theology. Blackwell has served as a leader in a variety of ministry areas, including social justice missions, teaching and preaching. He served for several years as the local missions coordinator at Fellowship Church in Dallas. He later served as a local preacher in the Durham Methodist Circuit and as the senior steward with Carrville Methodist Church in Durham, England.

Dr. Luke Tallon - 10:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28
Friday's Theology Week event will feature LETU theology professor Dr. Luke Tallon speaking during chapel service at 10 a.m. in the Belcher Center.
Tallon is an assistant professor of theology at LETU. He holds three degrees from Pepperdine University: a Bachelor of Arts in religion, a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Christian Thought. His doctoral degree in divinity is from the University of St. Andrews. Tallon has served as a visiting assistant professor of religion for Pepperdine University. He also has taught at Codrington College in Barbados and the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Tallon has led courses in theology, ethics and the Bible for students at the graduate, undergraduate and pre-collegiate levels.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring some of the leading Christian theologians to interact with our faculty, students and the community," said theology professor Dr. Pat Mays, who chairs the theology department.
