每日大赛官网 will feature a variety of guest chapel speakers for the Spring 2016 semester to discuss "Building Authentic Community." The chapel services are at 10:50 a.m. in the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave. in Longview. All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.
On Friday, Jan. 22, Chip Thompson of Tri-Grace Ministries will speak. Tri-Grace Ministries is committed to exalt and glorify Jesus by making disciples who are grounded in biblical truth to make lasting contributions to the kingdom of God.
On Monday, Jan. 25, Dr. Jim O'Neill, president of ABWE, an independent Baptist missions agency, will speak. ABWE provide services to expedite the fulfillment of the Great Commission to reach people across the globe with the Gospel of Christ. O'Neill has a passion for assisting younger leaders in their preparation for their calling. O'Neill, who served as a church planter in Asia for 13 years, was the president and founder of the Center for Global Mission, which equips emerging leaders to make a global impact for Christ.
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, George Verwer, founder and former international director of Operation Mobilization International, a ministry of evangelism, discipleship training and church planting worldwide. He has served over 50 years in ministry and shares a deep passion for the love of Jesus across the world.
On Friday, Jan. 29, LETU will welcome Angela Foster, a speaker with Rapha House, a ministry committed to ending the trafficking and sexual exploitation of children. Rapha House was founded in 2003 to enable victims to become survivors and find new life in Jesus Christ. The Disciple NOW Band will lead worship music for the chapel, as Disciple NOW leads thousands of Longview youth in a citywide event.
On Wednesday, Feb. 17, Mike Haley of Focus On The Family will begin the first of five lessons on Community and Relationships that will run through Friday, Feb. 19. Haley is the program director for the Raising Highly Capable Kids at Foc that helps parents raise healthy, caring and responsible children through the Focus on the Family ministry. Haley is the former manager of the homosexuality and gender issues department of Focus on the Family. Haley will speak at 10:50 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17; at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 and at 10:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19.
On Monday, March 14, instrumentalist Todd Green will perform a high-tech one-man-band of World Music. Green performs original music inspired by different cultures in Central Asia, Far East, Middle East and South America on over 30 acoustic string, flute and percussion instruments. He will perform a free concert at 7 p.m.
On Friday, March 18, Jim Kallam, senior pastor of Church at Charlotte in North Carolina will speak on building an authentic Christian community. Kallam is the author of the bestselling book, "Risking Church." He is a graduate of Northeastern Bible College, and is ordained by the EFCA.
On Monday, March 21, the Alaska String Band will perform at chapel at 10:50 and again in a free concert at 7 p.m. The concert group comprises members of a single family performing with guitar, twin violin-fiddles, bass, mandolin, ukulele, percussion and vocals. With extraordinary musicianship, technical skill and interpretative ability, the band provides an energetic program that includes a collection of bluegrass, gospel, swing, blues and original music. The band features energetic dancing and attractive costumes designed to reflect the spirit of Alaskan artistic lifestyle, culture and traditions.
On Wednesday, March 30, Christian slam poet Micah Bournes will perform during chapel and again in a free concert at 7 p.m. Bournes shares his personal journey of artistic expression from his youth growing up in Long Beach, Calif., immersed in hip-hop music. He attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where he began blending spoken word poetry, funk, and rhythm and blues into his music. He has participated in countless poetry slams across the country.
On Friday, April 15, members of the Christian musical band For King and Country will perform during chapel, while their entire band will perform in a ticketed concert at 7 p.m. The Christian pop duo comprises Australian-American brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone who now live in Nashville, Tenn. In 2012, they were listed among Billboard Magazine's "New Artists to Watch."
