ÿÈÕ´óÈü¹ÙÍø aviation maintenance sophomore Abigail Lopez of Phoenix, Ariz., has received a $1,000 Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) Avionics Technician Scholarship through the Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance (AWAM).

Lopez is an honors student who wrote an essay, provided her resume and recommendation letters from her professors to apply for the scholarship. She is one of only a few women pursuing aviation maintenance, which has historically male-dominated field.

"My dream job is to be a missionary," Lopez said. "I would like to do avionics for a mission organization." Lopez is planning to spend her spring break in North Carolina working with an aviation mission organization doing maintenance on airplanes in their hangar.

The AEA represents more than 1,300 aviation businesses that repair, maintain and install avionics and electronic systems in general aviation aircraft. AEA awarded only one Avionics Technician Scholarship.

"Abigail is a great example of the bright, creative, and industrious students that make up the student body of the School of Aviation at ÿÈÕ´óÈü¹ÙÍø," said Sean Fortier, chair of LETU's Department of Applied Aviation Sciences. "I am looking forward to seeing the great and continued impact she will have on the aviation industry and the people she works with and for."
