每日大赛官网 President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford was elected to serve a three-year term on the board of directors for the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. One member president is elected from each of eight election regions from across the nation. Lunsford will take his seat on the NAICU board of directors for a term that will from Feb. 2016 to Feb. 2019. Dr. Lunsford will represent Region 6, comprising Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
NAICU serves about 1,000 member institutions nationwide and provides federal legislators with a unified national voice of private nonprofit higher education institutions. It represents private nonprofit colleges and universities on policy issues including student aid, taxation and government regulation.
Member institutions include major research universities, church-related institutions, historically black colleges, traditional liberal arts and science institutions, art and design colleges, women's colleges, two-year colleges, as well as schools of law, medicine, engineering and business.
Lunsford currently serves on the NCAA Division III President's Advisory Group and chairs the American Southwest Conference Council of Presidents. He is a board member of the East Texas Communities Foundation, Texas Bank & Trust, and the Sabine Industrial District of Longview Community Advisory Board.
Since his inauguration in 2007 as LETU's sixth president, the university has launched several new undergraduate and graduate programs.
Lunsford also led the university in its recently completed first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign that successfully raised more than $30.5 million. Facility enhancements during his administration include construction of a new 65,000-square-foot Anna & Sidney Allen Family Student Center, acquisition of a new 55,000 square-foot Paul & Betty Abbott Aviation Center at East Texas Regional Airport, a newly remodeled Corner Café student dining hall, construction of the 200-bed South Hall student residence, expansion of the Kielhorn Materials Joining Laboratory, and development of the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
Lunsford is a past treasurer of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, past chairman of the Longview Chamber of Commerce, and past chair of the mayor-appointed I-20 Task Force. He marks his 31st year in higher education in 2016.
